All Aboard the Whisky Express

There are plenty of places to enjoy a whisky tasting but not many where your tasting room is a moving heritage railway carriage.

This October, we’re delighted to be joining the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway for the Whisky Express, a two-hour journey combining five whiskies from Lady of the Glen.

For us, it’s a slightly different way of doing a whisky tasting and that’s exactly what makes it appealing.

Rather than sitting around a table in a traditional tasting room, you’ll be able to sit back, enjoy the journey and discover a selection of whiskies while travelling through the Scottish countryside.

We are providing the Five whiskies

We are selecting five single cask drams for you to enjoy.

We’ll take guests through each of the five whiskies during the journey, explaining a little more about where they came from, how they were matured and what makes each one interesting.

Whisky meets railway heritage

Railways have historically been very important for Scotch whisky with distilleries named after railway sites and railways being vital connections while some distilleries were ruined when they were not connected to the system.

The Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway offers the opportunity to experience a piece of Scotland’s railway history first-hand, while the Whisky Express provides an opportunity to explore another of Scotland’s best-known traditions.

For one evening, we’re bringing the two together.

A whisky tasting with a difference

Ultimately, the Whisky Express is about enjoying good whisky in good company.

We’ll talk about the whiskies, the casks and the stories behind them, but this isn’t intended to be a formal lecture. We want it to be an enjoyable and relaxed evening where you can taste some interesting Scotch, ask questions and perhaps discover a whisky or two that you haven’t tried before.

And while you’re doing that, the scenery and railway provide the backdrop.

It’s a very different setting from our usual tastings and we’re looking forward to seeing what happens when Lady of the Glen meets the Whisky Express.

The Whisky Express takes place at the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway as part of the Steam, Steel, Road & Rail weekend.

Your ticket includes the two-hour railway journey and five whisky samples from Lady of the Glen.
