Glen Elgin 2008 #800177 ex-Madeira Barrique finish

The rare use of worm tub condensers contributes a medium bodied and fruity distillate. Matured for 10 years in a HHD before being finished in an ex-Madeira cask from J. Dias invoking notes of dried fruit.

The cask yielded only 277 bottles and it was bottled at natural cask strength 55.20%

Nose

Fairly dry initially with notes of toasted oak, dark chocolate and roasted nuts. However, with time, sweetness emerges in the form of milk chocolate, candied orange peel and waxy honey.

Palate

In the mouth there is an explosion of fruity sweetness in the form of baked apples, blackcurrants and juicy raisins & sultanas. Balance is provided in the form of festive spices, cinnamon and a touch of fennel.

Finish

The spice and herbal notes dominate here with a blackcurrant lozenge and a hint of dark mint chocolate. The honey notes from before are now like manuka honey on toast.
